June 2008
(as seen in the Scottsdale Airpark News)
Movies in theaters are alive and well as Hollywood
continues to release some very exciting films. Why see these films
in a theater instead of at home on your great home theater system?
Some movies are best experienced on a massive screen with amazing
sound, with audience interaction, or maybe that guilty pleasure
-- with hot liquid butter poured all over that big bag of popcorn.

There could be one annoyance though -- deciding just what to see,
given there are often five or more new movies released every week.
So with your busy life, if you could see just one newly released
movie per week, which five (due to a tie) in June should they
                be?

the brilliant doctor is ruthlessly pursued by The Abomination,
a nightmarish beast of pure adrenaline and aggression whose
powers match The Hulk's own. A fight of comic-book proportions
ensues as Banner must call upon the hero within to rescue
New York City from total destruction.

(Wahlberg), and his wife Alma (Deschanel) are having marital
problems and are on the verge of separation, when they find
that people start mysteriously killing themselves. At first
it is reported that it is some sort of terrorist attack, but
to their dismay, the couple learns that this is going on in
every city around the world. Elliot is determined to figure
out what is happening to everyone, but for now, Elliot and
Alma must run from populated areas in hopes of finding a place
where the large-scale threat to humanity is not present. As
they travel, the carnage is everywhere. |

promote his ever-eager analyst Maxwell Smart (Carell), who
has always dreamt of working in the field alongside stalwart
superstar Agent 23 (Johnson). Instead, Smart is partnered
with the lovely-but-lethal veteran Agent 99 (Hathaway). Given
little field experience and even less time, Smart is armed
with nothing but some spy-tech gadgets and his unbridled enthusiasm,
and must thwart the latest plot for world domination and the
doomsday plans by the head of KAOS (Stamp).

                  For the
weekend of June 27, and the Scottsdale Airpark Movie of the
                    Month, it is “Wall-E”, starring
the voices of Sigourney Weaver, John Ratzenberger (Ratatouille),
Kathy Najimy (Numb3rs), Fred Willard (Back to You), and Jeff
Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm), directed by Andrew Stanton
(Finding Nemo). Genre: animated family comedy / science fiction
adventure, not yet rated. The plot: sometime in the future,
Earth becomes completely covered in garbage, making it virtually
uninhabitable for humans. A solution is devised which will
place all of humanity on luxurious space cruises for five
years, in which time millions of WALL-E (Waste Allocation
Load Lifter Earth-Class) robots will clean up the planet.
Unfortunately, all the robots malfunction except for one,
and 400 years later, humanity remains in space while the lone
surviving robot attempts to finish cleaning up the entire
Earth by itself. Eventually, WALL-E becomes extremely curious
about the planet he is cleaning and begins examining the refuse
of the world that once was. After hundreds of years of cleaning
and collecting, WALL-E develops a personality and feelings.
Then a new scout ship is sent from the space cruisers to check
on the progress of the cleanup and things change in a big
                    way.

The other movie opening this weekend is Wanted. |

Furthermore, gong to the movies still gives you the most entertainment
“bang for the buck” when compared to a similar two hour
venture at any professional sporting event, play or music performance.

                See you at the movies!

Note: While the release dates & ratings for
these movies were correct at the time of printing, studios sometimes
make last-minute changes. If this happens, we apologize for any
