October 2008
(as seen in the Scottsdale Airpark News)
Movies in theaters are alive and well as Hollywood
continues to release some very exciting films. Why see these films
in a theater instead of at home on your great home theater system?
Some movies are best experienced on a massive screen with amazing
sound, with audience interaction, or maybe that guilty pleasure
-- with hot liquid butter poured all over that big bag of popcorn.

There could be one annoyance though -- deciding just what to see,
given there are often five or more new movies released every week.
So with your busy life, if you could see just one newly released
movie per week, which five in October should they be?

                    For
the weekend of October 3, it is “How to Lose
                      Friends & Alienate People”, starring
Simon Pegg (Run Fatboy Run), Megan Fox (Transformers), Gillian
Anderson (The X Files), Kirsten Dunst, and Jeff Bridges,
directed by Robert Weide (Curb Your Enthusiasm). Genre:
comedy, not yet rated. The plot: Sidney (Pegg) is a disillusioned
intellectual who both adores and despises the world of celebrity,
fame and glamour. His alternative magazine pokes fun at
the media obsessed stars and bucks trends, but when he is
offered a job at a diametrically opposed conservative magazine,
its something of a shock. It seems the other editor (Bridges)
is amused by Sidney's disruption of a post-BAFTA party with
a pig posing as Babe. Thus begins Sidney's descent into
success - his gradual move from derided outsider to confidante
of a starlet (Fox) and a love affair with a colleague (Dunst).
These will either make him or break him.

The other seven movies opening this weekend are: An

information on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating
out of Jordan. Their mission is to trap the dangerous Al Qaeda

of accomplishment. But a 15 year high school reunion and dire
financial problems spark the novel money making idea of pulling
together an amateur porn business. As the cameras roll, the
duo begins to sense they may have mutually stronger feelings

                See you at the movies!
